About BUS

The Regional Child Protection Research Unit for central Norway (BUS) is one of four regional resource and development centers for child protection which together serve the whole country.

RCPRU’s main mission is to provide assistance to child protection service agencies in the counties of Møre og Romsdal, and Sør- og Nord-Trøndelag. The center works in collaboration with municipal child protection service agencies in central Norway, and with public and private voluntary organizations and individuals to further professional development and carry out projects.

The center’s goal is to improve the competence of child protection workers, thereby indirectly contributing to the provision of better services for consumers – children, young people and their families. The aim is to carry out and disseminate the results of high-quality, practically relevant research and development on subjects of interest and importance for the field of child protection and for practice in various settings.

RCPRU aims to contribute to the development of more effective and better quality child protection services for individual consumers, and for the system as a whole. RCPRU hopes to increase practice-based knowledge in child protection through research, service development and professional training for RCPRU researchers with emphasis on targeted research topics. This will be done through projects initiated by RCPRU or commissioned by outside funding sources, and through the dissemination of relevant practice-oriented research results.

Activities will focus on four priority areas:

  • Children’s rights in child protection and child welfare
  • Organization of child protection services
  • Identification and treatment of children’s behaviour problems
  • Quality assurance for child protection services.

The centre is organized as a unit within NTNU Social Research AS.
